This program is structured and open for Customhouse Broker personnel handling imported steel, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officials, and employees of other U.S. Government agencies interested in steel enforcement.  The program is not geographically restricted; attendance from locations outside the general New York City area is encouraged.   Participants are responsible for their own travel, lodging, and meal expenses.  Attendance is free for U.S. Federal Government employees.

DISCLAIMER:  This information has been prepared for your convenience by the American steel industry.  This material is intended to provide guidance.  Recognizing that many complicated factors are involved in trade matters, an importer may wish to obtain a binding ruling under 19 CFR Part 177.  Reliance solely on this information may not be considered reasonable care.  Importers are referred to Treasury Decision 97-96, which was published in the Federal Register of December 4, 1997, and in the Customs Bulletin of December 17, 1997, for in-depth information on the concept of reasonable care.

The seminar, presented by technical, commercial, and legal experts representing the steel industry, aims to increase the knowledge of steel importations by members of the Customhouse broker community, as well as by CBP and other USG officials.  Brokers, Government and the steel industry all benefit when personnel involved in the steel import process are more knowledgeable of steel and the specific laws, rules and regulations that apply to steel imports.  The partnership between CBP and the steel industry and the seminar program has been continuous since the mid-1960s, with hundreds of CBP, other USG and Broker officials participating annually. The seminar is continuously revised and updated. You should attend even if you have been to past seminars.  In recognition of the significant problem of fraud, circumvention and evasion, there is additional material on this subject, as well as expanded information on current issues.
